select and use resources
Educational theorists believe that students learn best when they participate in lessons that are set in authentic contexts, are provided with clear instructions by the teacher, and have the opportunity to build their own knowledge (Skamp 2012, p.116).
An example of this is the 2013 HSIE lesson plan I created on the effects of British colonisation of Australia. This lesson was based on the following inquiry based learning model:
1. Get interested
2. Find out
3. Sort information
4. Answer the question
5. Make connections
As part of the find out stage the students were broken in small groups and assigned to a laptop or a computer. I created annotated PowerPoint images which the students used to find out additional information on their topic. My role was simply facilitator. Attached are examples of some of the slides the students used.
